***🐾 Important Adoption Information🐾***

Please take a few moments to carefully read through our important adoption information. We have put together many helpful recommendations, including important do’s and don’ts, to help make the transition into your home as smooth and successful as possible.

Welcome to the Family!

When you purchase a puppy or kitten from us, you become a part of our family—and that relationship doesn’t end when you take your new furry family member home. We are always here to support you throughout your journey together. Whether you have questions, need advice, or simply want guidance as your puppy or kitten grows, we’re just a phone call or message away! Our goal is to provide you with a true lifelong support system.

Nutrition for a Healthy Start

We highly recommend feeding your new puppy pawTree® Chicken & Brown Rice Formula (24% Protein). It is a nutritionally dense food made with quality, real ingredients to help provide your puppy with the balanced nutrition they need as they grow. Because this food is designed to be nutrient-dense and highly digestible, your puppy may need to eat less compared to foods that contain more fillers—and you may notice less waste as well! The goal is to help your puppy absorb and utilize the valuable nutrients their growing body needs.

Supporting Long-Term Health

We also recommend adding a Salmon Oil Supplement, available in either capsule or oil form. Salmon oil can be a wonderful addition to your pet’s nutritional routine. We want our puppies and kittens to enjoy long, healthy, happy lives, and we believe that starts with giving them the best possible foundation from the very beginning. Proper nutrition and thoughtful supplementation can play an important role in supporting their overall health and well-being. We’re honored to be a part of your journey and look forward to watching your new family member grow! 🐾❤️

🥣 Feeding & Water Routine 🥣

While your puppy is with us, they have 24/7 access to fresh food and clean, fresh water. Once they transition into your home, we recommend establishing a structured feeding routine of two meals per day. During the initial house- and crate-training period, we recommend removing food and water around 7:00 PM. Establishing this routine can help minimize nighttime accidents and make the potty-training process easier.

⚠️ Important: Please do not offer food or water for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour before or after heavy play or strenuous exercise. Allowing your puppy adequate time to rest before and after vigorous activity is an important part of keeping them comfortable and safe.

Crate Training: Creating Their Safe Space

We HIGHLY recommend crate training your new puppy. A crate is not only an important tool for keeping your puppy safe when you cannot directly supervise them, but it also helps protect your home and belongings. Puppies are naturally curious! They explore the world with their mouths and may chew, bite, or swallow things they don't understand could be harmful. A properly introduced crate provides them with a safe, comfortable place to relax when you aren't able to keep a close eye on them. Most importantly, the crate should never be used as punishment. Your puppy should learn that their crate is their safe place—a cozy “den” where they can rest, relax, and feel secure. We like to encourage puppies to explore their crate voluntarily. One method we recommend is placing a blanket over the top and sides of the crate while leaving the door area open and accessible. This can create a cozy, den-like environment that naturally encourages your puppy to go inside, explore, and nap. You can also place a few safe, special toys inside the crate that your puppy enjoys. This helps create a positive association and encourages them to spend time in their crate by choice. When you leave the home and your puppy needs to be crated, you can close the crate door and cover the crate completely with the blanket, creating a quiet, comfortable environment. A sound machine, television, or soft music can also provide comforting background noise.

Be Patient & Consistent

Puppies—especially Great Danes—are incredibly social and love being with their people. They often want to be right beside you 24/7! Because of this, crate training may take some patience and consistency in the beginning. Don't give up! Establishing a routine, remaining consistent, and using positive reinforcement are the keys to successful crate training. Remember, you are the leader, and your puppy is looking to you for guidance and structure. With patience, consistency, and plenty of positive encouragement, your puppy will learn that their crate is a safe and comfortable place to call their own. 🐾❤️

🐾 Leash Training & Puppy Safety 🐾

Leash Training:
When you begin leash training your new puppy, we recommend starting slowly and always under your direct supervision. One helpful way to introduce your puppy to the leash is to attach it to their collar and allow the leash to gently drag along the floor while they walk or play. This helps your puppy gradually become desensitized to having something attached to their collar and allows them to become comfortable with the sensation of the leash moving and creating a gentle pulling sensation. Keep a close eye on your puppy at all times to ensure the leash does not become caught or tangled.

🚫 Important: Avoid High-Traffic Dog Areas Until Fully Vaccinated

Absolutely do not take your new puppy to dog parks, pet stores, or other areas where large numbers of dogs gather until your veterinarian confirms that your puppy is adequately protected. Puppies are especially vulnerable to contagious illnesses while they are still completing their puppy vaccination series. Your puppy will need three to four rounds of puppy-series vaccinations, followed by their rabies vaccination at approximately 6 months of age, according to your veterinarian's recommended schedule. Although we thoroughly deworm our puppies before they leave our care, it is imperative that you provide your veterinarian with a fresh stool sample at each puppy visit. Your puppy will have a negative fecal test prior to leaving us, but routine follow-up testing is important because puppies can be exposed to parasites after going to their new homes. Please follow your veterinarian's recommendations regarding vaccinations, parasite prevention, and when it is safe for your puppy to begin visiting public places and interacting with unfamiliar dogs.

Your puppy's health and safety are our top priority! 🐶❤️
